A series of recent moves — from aggressively filling his reelection war chest to green-lighting shoot-to-kill orders against an American terror suspect overseas — would have triggered a massive backlash if George W. Bush had tried them, say former Bush administration officials and a few on the political left. Even Obama’s love for the links draws only gentle ribbing rather than the denunciations that helped drive Bush to give up the game for the balance of his presidency.
Gentle ribbing? It would be great if someone would also bother to note the white gloves treatment Jon Stewart has given Mr. Obama. Where is the outrage of the Bush years? It really does appear now that for many (not me) it was just that Bully Boy Bush was a Republican.
I loathed the Bully Boy for his constant attacks on the Constitution, for his illegal wars, and much more.
I loathe President Obama for the same.
I wish the two of them could be stranded on a deserted island so that need not live in fear of future harm they might do or drunken daughters or mustached daughters they might spawn.
I cannot believe that I once lived in fear of the country and my sons' future when Tricky Dick was in the White House. That was practically the birth of democracy compared the first years of this new century.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" for today:
