I love that illustration and it made me laugh. However, to really laugh, I had to read Lee Hamilton's column for the Indy Star entitled "Remember Iraq? You Should:"
Media coverage of the Iraq War has plummeted in recent years. The escalation in Afghanistan, threats from an al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen, and the economic crisis have pushed events in Baghdad, Mosul and Basra to the back pages, at best. And I could agree with that paragraph to a degree but then he lost me. How? He wants you to know that violence is down 90% in Iraq!!!! And it is true . . . if you pretend that 2006 is when the Iraq War started.
But the Iraq War started in March of 2003. And they never want to use 2003 as a baseline, do they? Because doing so would not allow them to lie "success!" Lee Hamilton, a former member of Congress, is a long-time liar. He chaired the Iran Contra Commission that excused and ignored the laws Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush broke.
Lee Hamilton was a liar then and he is a liar now.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" for today:
