I have many grandchildren and have fun with all of them. But I did not realize that one of my grandsons and I have a movie thing. His name is not George but I will call him George for the sake of this post.
So George's mom drops him off this afternoon and he wants to get my take on Superman's new costume. Click here. I could not believe it. This is a crime fighting outfit?
So George and I were discussing that and also noted the three movies we saw together this summer: Captain America, Thor, and Green Lantern.
And George says he is sorry that it was so hot this summer because it really hurt our record.
Every summer we see ten movies. We have done that for the last five years.
I was not aware of that.
George kept track.
This year we only saw three.
And I feel awful (and am awful) for not realizing that this was our thing. I am an awful grandmother.
So I grabbed the keys and said, "We can make it five tonight." And we headed to the movies and when we got there I called his parents to explain what happened and how we were seeing two movies.
We got our big popcorn that we share, our big sodas (that we do not share), my red vines and his Junior Mints and headed for the first film.
We saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes and I loved it but I love all the Planet of the Apes movies. I love all the 70s movies and the remake about eight years ago with Mark Wahlberg in the Charlton Heston part. I really thought it was a good movie.
I think the people playing apes get more realistic (in terms of make up) each time they do another Planet of the Apes movie.
Then we dumped our popcorn (almost all gone), got some M&Ms and hurried over to see Colombiana. This was about a young woman who is robbed of everything that matters to her and decides to make the criminals pay. At times it was so fast paced you could get a headache. And just when I was thinking, "She really needs to be reflecting here," they had the needed scene. It is a real roller coaster movie.
George loves the actress in that movie and that is why he picked it. She actually is a talented actress. And this is a good movie.
So we had so much fun and then had to stop for our (I remembered this) disection of what we saw over yogurt.
We have now seen five movies this summer. I told my grandson that we have until the last hours of Labor Day to see the next five and keep our ten movie record. So he is going to figure out what else we can see.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" for today:
